Selena Gomez got emotional during the premiere of her upcoming film, Emilia Perez, at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday.

Gomez – who recently opened up about her social media break – was also joined by her costars Zoe Saldana and Edgar Ramirez, who embraced each other following the movie’s conclusion, according to Variety.
Later, Gomez shared photos from the film’s after-party celebration on her Instagram Story.
The Disney Channel alum sizzled in a dark green long-sleeve dress as she relaxed on an outdoor sofa.
The Only Murders In The Building star accessorized with various pieces of jewelry, and her gorgeous brunette locks were partially tied back into a flowing ponytail.
It was revealed that Gomez had signed on to star in Emilia Perez in January 2023.
The movie is centered on a lawyer who is recruited by a Mexican drug lord in order to help him undergo a sex change operation to become a woman.
The Love You Like A Love Song singer portrays the cartel leader’s unsuspecting wife in the movie.
The cast of the film is led by Karla Sofia Gascon and also includes the likes of performers such as Mark Ivanir and Adriana Paz.
Production on the feature was initially set to take place in 2022, although shooting was delayed by several months due to scheduling conflicts.
Audiard spoke to Variety earlier this year and revealed that he did not initially envision Emilia Perez as a feature-length film.
The director told the media outlet that he originally thought that the project would take the form of ‘an opera libretto in four acts,’ although he later changed his mind.

‘It was the first time that an idea [for a film] came to me under this shape,’ he added.
The filmmaker went on to state that he shot the movie predominantly in studios, as working on set gave him ‘more freedom for the parts that are sung and choreographed.’
He described his choice to film his project in a studio as feeling ‘like a return to a primary intuition.’
Emilia Perez is currently scheduled to be released theatrically in France on August 28.
