Karla Sofía Gascón made history as the first trans actor to win a major award at Cannes. Accepting the award on behalf of the cast, Gascón delivered a poignant message. “This award is not just for me. It’s for all people who are fighting for themselves and their rights,” she said, as reported by AP. “We’ve been insulted, denigrated, subjected to a lot of violence without even knowing why. I think this award is so much more than anyone could imagine.”
